In my extreme absence from writing about myself several things have transpired. Beth has a full time position teaching 5th grade. I'm very proud of her. I knew she would find the right school. She receives comments from the classroom parents often about how wonderful she is for their children. I'm very, very proud of my wife.
We've finished unpacking the house. Beth has done a great job decorating and make the place feel like home. I'm not sure what I would do w/out her. She makes life easy.
We've had people over for various parties and get-togethers. They have gone off well as we are awesome hosts. :-) I'm very humble.
I spent the weekend at the Catholic Youth Convention at Bellevue College. It was a great experience for the teens who could make it, but it was exhausting. Each morning was way too early. The company was good though.

It's the Small Things
Tuesday ended well for me. Beth met me at the bus stop so I'd have good company for the walk home. It's pretty cool that she is willing to do that. Lately I've been noticing a lot of snails in the morning and of course none in the afternoon/evening. I pointed out the various bushes I see them moving away from in the morning. See? It's literally the small things that can make me happy.
Even better though; we got home and raced up our porch steps. I lost, but it was good to see the wife smile. I asked if there was anything I could carry up the stairs for her and then did so. She seems to appreciate the gesture, must keep it up.
Still want to punch life in the face though. While I can't solve all my problems I can continue to focus on what can be helped. Which is mostly how I can help around the house and my attitude about doing so.

Punching Life in the Face
The title of the post might be my problem. I get very frustrated with things that I can't solve right away, and my response is to punch it. Or grunt very loudly. Or mumble loudly enough that others will hear my frustration. I have a list of things I get easily frustrated with. The primary thing is money.
Saying money is the root of all evil is shallow BS. Not having money is the root of almost all problems. I'm sure people who have a lot of money worry about savings plans, the IRS & how best to keep their gold polished. Not really experienced with the rich people problems. I'm willing to give a shot though. Send all PayPal payments to matthew.compton@gmail.com. All amounts accepted.
Being short on cash isn't my main worry though. I worry about family a lot. I worry that we don't forgive enough despite praying for forgiveness every time we say the Lords Prayer. I worry about friends and drifting away because life gets busy. I worry about my health and those around me. I worry I have a lack of will power while telling myself to do more.

Life teen day retreat
Yesterday we conducted our first retreat for the high school teens of blessed Theresa. It was a day long retreat that was scheduled from 10 am to 9pm. We had seven teens who all actively participated. Events had to be cut short due to the weather. It was a very good day.

Adoption Research
Beth & I submitted paperwork looking into adopting through CCS. Beth has also been researching how to adopt through DSH... I think that's the correct acronym.
One of the largest fears Beth had to share with me when we were still dating and thinking about marriage, was that she may not be able to have children thanks to her PCOS. I told her then that it wouldn't stop me from marrying her. I told her we could always adopt. I meant it then, and I mean it even more today.
Wish us luck as we wade through red tape, paperwork and bureaucratic channels.

After Christmas
Christmas was a very busy day and very rewarding. Jacob & Julee were over on Christmas Eve along with my mother. Andrea & Vance had been with us for a couple day already. I'm pretty sure they were excited to see mommy & daddy again.
After attending 6pm Mass we went home and had dinner. Hung stockings and drank egg nog. Good times. I was very happy to finally fall asleep.
Next thing I know is that I'm being woken up with, "We got a letter from Santa!" Andrea was very excited that Santa took the time to thank her & Vance for the cookies, and the carrots for the reindeer.
I did many dishes, and vacuumed much carpet. Back at work now and wishing for more sleep.
